Just bought 2 Predator MKs and will be picking them up at KTP; I'm confused about the battery type that I need. Your site says: 12V Group 27 Marine Sealed Deep Cycle. Other retailers, such as Austin Kayak, list the battery as Group as 24. Which is it?

Asked by: BillyM
Thanks for your inquiry and congrats on the purchase of your Predator MK kayaks! Sorry for any confusion - The owner’s manual for the Predator XL actually has a misprint for the battery size. For the Predator XL motor console, we suggest using a sealed 12 volt group 27 deep cycle battery with a minimum of 85 amp hour rating. A group 27 battery is the largest battery that can be used with the Predator XL kayak. Hope this helps!

What is the difference between the predator mk and the predator xl minnkota.

Asked by: Jaycee
The Predator MK and XL are both the exact same hull, pre-wired and ready to accept the Predator MinnKota motor console. The difference is that the Predator MK comes with the motor console, and the XL simply comes with a flat floor console. This allows you to paddle the XL like a regular kayak and upgrade to the motor console at a later time. The flat floor console is available separately as well if you wanted that option for the MK. Hope this helps!

Will the humminbird xtn 9 down imaging transducer work without the trolling motor blocking the signal? If I mount it on the removable plate on the bottom of the minn kota console. I want to find out before I drill and mount it. I have a helix 7 di unit

Asked by: Jpb2112
The motor can cause a small amount of interference for the stern view only, it will not interfere with down and forward viewing. Additional transducer plates can also be added to the current transducer plate to lower the transducer, minimizing the stern view interference. These additional transducer plates are $2.99 each, item number 01.1315.0655. They can be ordered through your local dealer or by calling Customer Service at 800-343-1555.

Minkota makes a dedicated salt water trolling motor. How will this motor system hold up to salt water since it has zero information related to salt water wear and tear with this motor system?

Asked by: Concerned about Corrosion
The MK motor used for our Predator series is rated for salt-water and fresh-water use. For upkeep and maintenance, to prevent any corrosion when using your Predator MK/XL in saltwater environments, we do suggest washing your boat down with clean water after each use and also using dielectric grease on all terminals for the plugs, sockets, and connections. All of the connections in the console use sealing butt connectors, the connections to the control board are also with a sealing heat shrink tube. The control board itself is potted with epoxy sealing the elements out. One of the biggest vulnerabilities we have identified from customer issues is corrosion in the battery box where the positive wire connects to the circuit breaker. This area is hidden under a flap secured by 2 small screws on the outside of the lid. Even if not submerged, you should still check this connection, and keep the connection clean and greased. Corrosion here leads to a loss of power and eventually all function of the console. I hope this helps answer your questions and please let us know if you need anything else. Thanks again and have a great day.

If you are in shallow water can you remove the trolling motor, is there a plate or something to fill in the void?   Also what is the draft with the trolling motor in place with a 200 lb. person?

Asked by: wellere
When in shallow water you can easily lift the motor up and out of the water, propping it up on its built-in kickstand. We do offer a Predator Paddle Console that can be used to plug the floor when the motor is not in use. This would just allow you to plug the open cavity and paddle the boat like a regular kayak, but this accessory can't be used in tandem with the motor console - choose one or the other for when you are out on the water. Unfortunately we do not have any draft measurements for the Predator XL kayak. These types of measurements are highly dependent on paddler weight and gear, and also the conditions of which you are paddling in. As a general guideline, we would suggest using the Predator XL with motor console in place in a depth no less than 16” of water. Without the motor in and using the Paddle Console instead, it can be used in roughly 6” of water. Again, these numbers are highly dependent on paddler weight, gear, and paddling conditions so it may be best that you do a test run and see how deep you may be sitting in the water with a loaded boat and paddle/troll accordingly dependent on what you see. Hope this helps!
