I fish in very grassy areas of the salt marsh (Spartina). How weed free is this drive?

Asked by: FTSmith
It picks up grass and you have to lift drive and pull it out-alot

can it be picked up quickly for floating rivers with shallow riffles.

Asked by: fattyr
YES - you can lift and prop up your PDL unit out of the kayak very easily by unlocking the knob-lock that secures it, and lifting it up into the console stay/kickstand.

I just purchased a Predator PDL. Very little information came with it.  Is there routine maintenance required on the PDL Drive? What kind of warranty comes on the drive and the kayak itself?

Asked by: SeaBoss
Congrats on your PDL purchase! The Predator PDL was designed for use in clear and salt-water applications. The Pedal Drives are certainly ok in salt water, approved and thoroughly tested by our Quality team and many of our pro fisher staff. After using it in salt water, the best way to clean it would be to dunk the prop in a bucket of clean water and spin the pedals a few rotations to really help get the salt off the components. Every once in a while, it also wouldn't hurt to spray a little lubricant (i.e. WD40) around where the pedals attach to the crank arms. Any lube will do, it does not have to be silicone. The PDL drive is designed to be maintenance free, using special grease that comes from MinnKota motors. It is applied on the gears, and, in our extensive testing that duplicates a lifetime of use, the internal gears remain lubricated throughout the life of the drive system. The prop shaft has a waterproof seal that prevents water intrusion into the drive system. All the points of assembly that are underwater or that will see water have been fully-sealed. Hope this helps and please let us know if you have any other questions!
