We have several Saranac 146's that need skid plates what do you recommend to use for them. Thanks

Asked by: matty
Thank you for the question in regards to your Saranac canoe. If the bow and stern keel line of the canoe are wearing thin and you need to repair/patch them, I would strongly suggest getting a Kevlar skid plate kit for your canoe. Our Skid Plate kit guards your new or old canoe from wearing out the ends, protecting against rocks and other debris you may come across on your paddling voyages or during portage. You can order skid plate kits online here: (https://oldtowncanoe.johnsonoutdoors.com/parts/hull-deck/skid-plate-kit), or just give us a call direct and any of our reps will be able to assist you with that. Thank you.

I assume the seats fold flat for mounting on a roof rack when transporting this? Please confirm as i will be transporting on the top of an SUV. Also, I see "B Sports" sells this and wanted to confirm they are an authorized seller. Thank you

Asked by: johnfw
YES - the plastic seatbacks on the Saranac series will fold down flat for transportation, but there is no latch or locking mechanism to keep them in the down position. So if you transport your canoe upside down, we would suggest using a piece of rope or bungee cord to keep the seatbacks in the down position. You can find a list of our authorized dealers here: https://www.oldtowncanoe.com/where-to-buy?_ga=2.24521855.434202300.1522065281-1682807656.1521460571 Hope this helps!

Hello  I want to buy a 146 Canoe and read a review that someone bought one and both handles were cracked. The person went back to the store and looked at the rest of the 146 Canoe and all the handles were cracked. Is this a defect with this model?

Asked by: BTK77
Our decks are made of a durable vinyl that holds up well against wear and tear. Cracking can happen if the canoes are stored improperly or the handle is not used properly though. If the decks at a store are all cracked, they may want to speak to the store manager to discuss deck replacements if they decide to purchase the canoe. Hope this helps!

I have a Saranac 146. It looks like there is a predrilled hole for anchor mount placement. Is this true?

Asked by: Deacon
Some of the earlier versions of the Saranac models offered a different style deck at the bow and stern. These had two holes that looked like they had little teeth around the edges, located at the tip and base of the deck. These are star mounts that can fit any Scotty or Cannon accessory that has a Star-mount. Cannon accessories do tend to have a better/snug fit. The Scotty Anchor Lock will fit these holes. Hope this helps!

Can an electric motor be used on the Saranac 146? If so, what motor mount do you recommend? I'll be using a 32lb thrust motor.

Asked by: Christo
You can certainly use a trolling motor on the Saranac 146 by using something like the Standard Motor Mount - https://oldtowncanoe.johnsonoutdoors.com/accessories/hull-deck/standard-motor-mount.
