I am primarily interested in solo canoeing and would like a canoe for when I go camping. mostly lakes. I am 59 and in average shape. Also, what roof securing system would you recommend for a 2014 Honda ridgeline with a roof rack? thanks

As for solo canoes we offer both the Next and Discovery 119 models. The Next essentially took the old Pack canoe’s place. The Next is made of our traditional 3-layer poly material and will weigh about 59 lbs. The Next offers a flat bottom hull with straight sides and minimum rocker. These boats will perform at best with great stability on flat water lakes and ponds and will offer better tracking. That being said, this would not be your best option if you plan to run rivers with it. The Discovery 119 is also made of our 3-layer poly and has a shallow arch hull with straight sides and moderate rocker. This boat weighs 49 lbs. and would be best for padding slow to moderate moving rivers and streams, flat bodies of water and also in somewhat uneasy conditions as the shallow arch hull is a more versatile hull design for all-around use in various conditions. The Discovery 119 still offers exceptional tracking for its size, but will have slightly better maneuverability compared to the Next since it has more rocker. As for a solid roof rack system, we suggest checking with Malone Auto Racks ( and they should be able to assist you with that. Hope this helps!
